SOLUTIONS TO CHIP FORMATION
In the 1990’s machines, techniques and devices for cutting aluminium evolved rapidly. Therefore, some of the machine manufacturers invented and produced special machines for aluminium cutting. Aluminium chip formation can lead to a critical problem since it can extend for long distances and spread to large areas. This chip formation problem should be solved carefully and on time, otherwise, it will lead to catastrophe. One of the problems occurs when chips are entangled between device and part, bringing issues like bad quality of the aluminium product surface, or even worse scenario, advanced device wear or complete breakage of the device. Cooling fluid with high pressure is a valuable solution to blow out chips; moreover, washing chips out is feasible by the use of high-volume flood systems. Evacuation of chips can be solved by the use of gravity, which is achievable by redesigning cutting devices. That is why vertical lathes were reversed.
