CHALLENGES IN ALUMINIUM-MACHINING

One of the challenges of aluminium machining is chip management, especially in processes such as rolling, forging and extrusion of aluminium alloys. In these aluminium-machining procedures, chip generation can result in extended, fibrous chips that can cover large areas and surround devices and workpieces. Although cutting tool geometry has improved over time, chip issues can still happen due to high cutting speeds and shallow depths of cut. This situation can be solved by reducing the cutting rate and adjusting the tool geometry and the deepness of the cut. Due to the problem of endless chip formation, it is nearly impossible to accomplish optimal cycle duration.
